Ask anyone about the casino and there is a good chance that the first thing to spring to mind is the roulette table: the fantastic rotating wheel - a wood and-chrome precision masterpiece - inset in a sea of multicolored felt. There are 38 blocks on the wheel, with numbers ranging from 1 through 36, colored red and black (alternating), plus a zero and a double zero that are colored green. Shaped like a bowl, the wheel is spun in one direction by the dealer, who then spins a small ivory ball around the outer rim in the opposite direction. When the ball slows, it drops into one of the pockets of the wheel.
The spinning wheel is what makes roulette such a game of chance: Each spin is new so that no matter how many times a number has recently come up, there's simply no way of predicting where the ball will fall. As a novice player, the skill lies in being aware of the odds and placing your bets accordingly.

Betting the Wheel
Normally, between one and eight players can play the game at one time. However, some casinos have two layouts, with one wheel that allows additional players to participate. There are a large number of bets allowed in casino roulette. They range from single-number selection to numerous variations up to 18, in addition to large number of combinations. You are allowed to make as many bets as you want, and you may continue making them until the dealer or croupier calls " no more bets" or , in French "rien ne va plus."
Roulette Chips
You will be given special colored roulette chips when you first buy in to the game. You declare their value to the dealer (this can be any amount between the minimum and maximum table limits). The dealer places a value button (marker) on your colored chip, and then places both on the rim of the wheel to remind himself and to alert the next dealer of the value of your chips. Every player at the table will use different-colored chips to prevent confusion and to help the dealer determine which wager belongs to whom.
In many casinos around the world, all the players use the same "house" chips, which can lead to lots of confusion and to help the dealer determine which wager belongs to whom.
The placard on the table will inform you of the minimum and maximum bets. If a specific bet you would like to make is already covered by someone else's wager, simply stack your bet on top of theirs.
